Founded in 1938 by Léonide Lussier, La Binerie Mont-Royal is a true Montreal culinary institution. Established for 81 years on the mythical avenue du Mont-Royal, this emblematic address celebrates traditional Quebec cuisine at its most authentic and generous.

Renowned for its Québec terroir dishes, La Binerie Mont-Royal offers comforting home cooking: pork roast, traditional stew, bacon, cretons, shepherd's pie, poutine, not to mention its signature dish. Every year, more than 32 tons of baked beans are prepared according to traditional recipes, making La Binerie a benchmark for Quebec restaurants in Montreal.

A place steeped in history and culture

Beyond its cuisine, La Binerie Mont-Royal is a historic landmark deeply rooted in Montreal culture. The establishment was the setting for Yves Beauchemin's famous novel and film Le Matou, contributing to its cultural renown.

Over the decades, many prominent figures have made their mark here, including Camilien Houde, former mayor of Montreal, and field hockey legend Maurice "Rocket" Richard, who counted La Binerie among their favorite addresses.

A tradition that lives on

On November 17, 2005, Jocelyne Gingras and Philippe Brunet became the proud owners of La Binerie Mont-Royal. Driven by a passion for authentic Quebec cuisine and a desire to offer a unique culinary experience, they proudly carry on the legacy of this Montreal institution.

Today, Mrs. Gingras is in charge of the kitchen, while Philippe Brunet and their son Jean-Philippe provide warm, family-style service in keeping with the restaurant's original spirit.
